    Hi all,

Just wanted to ask about timing re submitting my site to different directories (I have about 50 I want to try and do all today), and then how many backlinks - via forum posts/link in signature etc.

Could I do these 50 today? My ebook selling site has been live for about 1 month now.

Also re backlinks, would say 10 a day be too much? At this stage I'm doing it all manually - I know there are much faster ways but for now staying manual.

    Thanks so much!

The number is not nearly as important as your velocity. Generally what you should do is decide the max you are going to be able to build and then start at 25% of that and work up to your max over a couple of months. Since you are planning on doing it manually your max is not really going to be all that high so I would probably start at closer to 50% and work up from there.

Hi volund - thanks heaps for your reply. Ok so basically keep it to a level I can maintain on a daily/weekly basis. I have a list of high PR sites I was going to go through (only about 100) but will be better to maybe do like 8-10 a day, without being exactly on those figures, to make it look natural.

Just a question - say this site is X and so I'll either list the URL or a link to the url with a keyword (whether I'm submitting in directories or as blog comments, forum signatures etc). I also have a site A which is only related to X in that on A, it will link to X's ebook services to promote it along with links to other sites. So can I effectively use all these sites again to backlink to A? Or will Google penalise me because X has prob one link to A. Have searched and read alot of posts here but this exact situation hasn't come up for what I've found. Basically, A is like an umbrella page for sites, so it will have its own content but on one page will link to X and if I did other sites, say Y and Z ,it will have a link to them as well. Y and Z will prob have one link to A (hope this is making sense).. i.e. reciprocal links, but ONLY just to promote the other sites on A.
