I'm thinking of ranking my own sites for certain local SEO keywords, then reaching out to business and renting ad space bassically to get them featured on the site.

This way they NEED to keep paying if they wanna be on there (compared to ranking them, then hoping they don't stop paying) and I have full control over how I want to rank and what onpage/offpage techniques I wanna use.

Just wondering if anyone's done something similar, and looking for advice on this as I'm just gettinf started in the local SEO game.

Guess I won't need citations for this? What's a good monthly traffic number to aim for?

Typically the business model for that is to sell them leads as opposed to sell them advertising. I've done that with advertising and it can work but you'll be kissing a lot of babies and shaking a lot of hands.

It is more hands on than selling leads from my experience but if you like that kind of interaction it is perfectly fine.

It wore on me after some time and I sold the sites I used for that.

How do you track the amount of leads you bring them and do you charge per lead or per click to their website perhaps?

That's one of the reasons why I would prefer going for advertising over leads. Also, the # of leads you bring is kind of uncertain while advertisements are set monthly revenue, since you are renting it out.

I agree. I'm about to call a few dozen small town dentists or something when I get a chance and act like I got a site that's ranking. I'll talk numbers and see if I can get them to buy. This way I'll get data on how much I can be making for what type of keywords without actually ranking for it so I'll know how much I can invest and what my profit margins will be.

What about estate sale companies? I was thinking of doing the same and selling leads to estate sale companies. Just been kicking it around.

You use a call tracking website, that can redirect calls from a number of yours and it records all the calls made. I think that's how they do it

search for "rent and rent" ;)

I did a course 2012 called OMG Machines from the famouls Mike Long posing in front of "friends" lambo.

Well, they bullshitted people into ranking sites overnight ;)

and theyself used the usual PBN, and top notch expired domains ;)

some .de guys I "deliver some XYZ services to" now do that..

this is a common practice but most would sell the leads to a company per month. Then when they stop paying you move the leads to a new customer. Now if you were ranked for something that was very competitive market and you had a ton of traffic to your site then yep you could sell ad space on the site.

@hacko , Someone was even thinking about ranking for those keywords with CPC and placing adsense on them- Would that work good for you ?

I was prolly thinking same and looks like a great idea TBH -!

Another option is going with PPC(all) with some PPcall companies . I have a list of some let me know if you will ne interested in going through this lane.

What I've done in the past is that I rank for those keywords and then I rent out the websites to businesses for 300-500 a month.

    A quick update on this.

So, I did make a few calls and that barely got me a few emails to contact. I'm not a sales person and cold calling people is outside my comfort zone for sure, but gotta do what you gotta do.

Anyway, I discussed this in a Skype group and there's basically two approaches I could take:
@splishsplash said that I should learn sales and cold calling. I actually like listening to people when they know more about something than I do, so I got myself a few of Grant Cardone's audio books and I'm learning sales as I'm writing this. I have to do this at some point if I wanna make any real money, and it's definitely not hurting me.

@Spawn said that cold calling is horrible and I should get the customers to come to me. Some food for thought there and definitely a conflicting view (to the previous one), although equally as valid. We do live in the age of the Internet, and a lot of people actually get mad when you call them, since you're taking up their time. People want to respond on THEIR time, not yours.

Long story short - I have the SEO skills to make this happen, just not the sales skills (yet). I'm investing a lot of time to figure out the best process for me to reach as many people as possible most efficiently and convert them into clients. I'm not interested in making a few grand per month selling local SEO or renting websites - I'm doing this because I want to eventually move away from affiliate marketing and grow an actual brand, so I definitely have a lot to learn if I wanna close any real deals. It's gonna happen though, I'll have to test and see what works for me.

you can pop the site to +2-5. make a big ad "RENT THIS SITE FOR XYZ CALL ME".
and no fkn client will call you..

so you will have 2 options:

cold mail them - no one wil aswer.

    cold call them all day..

if its for you, try it. if not, dont waste time on that.

I#d rather "sell on a monthly basis" the links to make those sites # to the "people" in the middle, like seo guys. cause they at least "know of majestic" most time - though they dont now sh1t how to use it...

There's more than one way to skin a cat (hate that saying, but yeah). Truth is, other people have done this before, which means it's doable. Also I like the hustle part of dealing with clients, shit gets me high lol

Do you have any coaching on LOCAL SEO ?
I am struggling at local SEO , I cold call but no rankings :p

best way to get clients is to run a Ringless voice mail drop campaign and using a call center like JILL'S office to pre sell the clients
You only need to talk to clients that REALLY WANT TO BUY from you.

No offence to @Spawn but cold calling is amazing. You can generate so so many leads and meetings in such a quick timeframe, but you HAVE to be trained. I can pick up the phone now and get through to owners or high end managers of $10mil+/year agencies and have them request information via email with an incredibly high success rate.

When I first started I was awful. I could barely set a meeting with a local plumber.

You can't wait for customers to come to you. You're handing over the power to them instead of TAKING the power into your own hands and solving their problems. Being the guy who they think of whenever they have ANY issue in your sector. It's powerful.

Once you learn cold calls you'll have a huge lightbulb moment and wonder how you spent so many years waiting for customers to come to you out of fear of disturbing them or being unreasonable. Disturb people. Keep disturbing people. You're there to help. Sell yourself first and once you have you won't view it as a disturbance, you'll view it as your MISSION to help people.
