My site runs on Wordpress and I want to know if trying to rank a category page will work better for a fairly competitive keyword, instead of ranking an individual post.

The topic of the keyword is very broad as well, so I figured the category would be appropriate. Also, my category pages have a ton of content on them and everything is directly related to the keyword in question.

Will ranking a Wordpress category page work? Or should I stick to ranking posts? My SEO knowledge is limited. Thanks in advance for your input.

Pages, Categories, Posts, they're all the same thing basically. You may want to add the rel=author tag to the page manually since it's not a post, if you want authorship that is. But besides that it doesn't really matter.
