Ranking well in different search locations?

I've been working on promoting a site on some fairly competitive keywords for the past couple months. We've risen up to the 1st or 2nd page on all the keywords, but if we perform the same searches on the Canadian Google or UK Google we're nowhere to be found.

Are there any tricks or changes to our website we could do that'd improve our search position in other locales without harming our search position in the USA? What about including some keywords 'Canada' or 'United Kingdom' in the body of our website--would that help without harming out USA search ranking?

For 'The World' my result was 23rd while I rank 15th for the same keyword in the USA.

For Canada, I was 61st and the UK I was 194th.
