this method has worked for me forever... but not now... Site has all original content, going after main keyword in domain name... exact match... It's been over two months and the thing is not showing up at all... does it need back links? how would u go about it?

yes... if I type in the whole website URL in Google... it's there if you choose "search instead "URL NAME" blah blah" so the pages are indexed.

Yeah you have to create backlinks because may be this time you are trying to rank for the keyword which is little more difficult to rank for and the competitors of this keyword of your choice may be on the higher side..So do some good backlinking and see the result..

Matt Cutts announced after the Penguin update that they were significantly devaluing the power of exact match domains. It still gives you a boost, but it's not as strong as before. Before Google thought exact match domains had more authority, but now their brand-awareness algorithms have taken over some of that.

Basically, don't expect your exact match domains to do all the work for you. It's just not that simple anymore. You definitely, absolutely need to build backlinks.

Low quality Exact match domain will be vanished in search results after Matt Cutts Announcement. So try to build authority to the EMD that you own, and get the ranking back...

You need to be careful with EMD after last Google updates
    Matt Cutts twitter quote:
"New exact-match domain (EMD) algo affects 0.6% of English-US queries to a noticeable degree. Unrelated to Panda/Penguin."
