For a company that has no website but a google maps listing.

Possible ?

Yes it is possible. Depending on the niche and the competition. It is always easier to do it with a website. The more complete the listing is the easier it is to get it to #1.

The name of the company has weight.
The address to city center holds weight.
There is a lot more to google locals then the website.

So what does the company need to do to get their listing moving up ?

I actually have the "Google Maps Cash" ebook / video set that tells how to do this very well, I just really don't have time right now to do it for him and would feel bad charging him to do it

I am not going to give you a step by step. You need to watch the google maps cash it will tell you everything you need to know pretty much.

The things that google maps is looking at
1. Citations
2. Distance address is from city center
3. Reviews
4. Local Phone number
5. Business Name - I personally know this has a lot to do with it, cause I have a couple of one boxes for some local searches, just because of the business name.
6. A complete listing

I do need to ask the question, why is there no website? If it is a client offer to build them one and if it is yours throw a quick wordpress up. It can even be at wordpress.com that is completely free.

Thanks, I got the book. The client is cheap. She has no money and is not tech savvy.

I would suggest 1 not working for her if she is cheap. You are offering a service that you should be paid for.

Another option is bargening for something. Depending on the business type she is you could get something from her for the work you do.

For example, I put a local bed company in the top spot and got a Free California King size bed. Now I told him if I keep him there for 6 months I want this bedroom set he has. That is just an example. If it is a restaurant you want to eat for free for 6 months or a certain amount of money.

What i suggested was a contract that has what she is currently paying as the starting fee, once the result is achieved and she gets more business(given that i know her rates hourly and service fee) she will need to pay the regular price. She is kind of in a tight spot.

Well it would definitely help to have a website. i'ts so cheap, even free to setup one that I don't see why you would even think twice. You dont want to lose your spot to someone else just because they had a website and you dont

Well that is good of you, and if you trust her it would be a good first client.

What I would suggest is going and setting up a free wordpress site, or get some free hosting and throw something together. It is hard to say more cause I don't know the niche. If you would like to pm me you can. I will help any way that I can.

As lusius suggests it is a good idea to have a site, cause if that person behind you catches up with everything else, their site will push them over the top of you.

Seriously to set up an entire site with a .info domain is like $5.00, if she can not afford $5.00 she is probably already up that sh!t creek. Let me know if you need anymore help.
