Can I rank above a site that has our keyword in its titie?

    For example

My site is called - abc.com and is at position 7 for widgets currently ( thanks to you guys BTW )

The competitor site - widgets.com and is position 1 currently

Is it possible to move from say 7 to 2 or 3 or even 1 if my site does not have this widgets keyword in the site URL?

absolutely... links are a great way... another way that has worked for me is to go...

abc.com?=widgets and point text links "widgets" to that page.

This works. You don't need to create a new page for this, adding the ?= works on 99.9% of server configs.

Definitely. Higher quality backlinks and more backlinks will do this. You can also play a little dirty and xrumer blast your competitor's site on forums that are active and will most likely result in a ban.

That being said, it'll take quite a while depending on how many backlinks widgets.com has and how long it's held #1 for.

I have a question for you, in the title meta tag- putting the main keyword first-does making the keyword bold have any effect? and for the remaining title words -putting additional keywords with quotes and using a seperator |- do the quotes have a positive effect?

    Thanks

OK the back links for us are 4600 so far, and the back links for them is 120 - Domain age for them is 8 years, 5 for us. Our PR4 their PR is 2.

I have recently updated our page on page stuff - I am unable to re write URLs due to the nature of our site in that the pages are dynamic because the users create their own listings.

However we have made sure unlike them that the keyword is on ALL of our listing pages whereas they only have one home page.

Hm - Do you think Angelas backlinks is the way to go at this stage to see how far up their ass we can get?

Our clients are moaning that people go to the competitors site for widgets... I believe the only reason for that is GOOGLE

    Agree about angelas?

Relating to the URL and =? etc, would you mind elaborating on that?
