Ranking on first page with just off page seo?

Hi guys
Does anyone of you know is it possible to rank just with off page seo? There are tons of websites on the first page with just images and barely content. Does this means that you can rank only with off page seo. How about these Seo services that they just need 5 keywords to rank your site on first page, usually just using web 2.0. I heard it is possible but is not a good practice, if that is the case how this websites with almost no content stay on the first page?
Any thoughts?

Yes, you can rank with off-page SEO only. However, it's not going to be optimal. If you can do both (on page and off page) the result would be even better. I got a client site that moved from page 3 to page 1 just because I changed the meta title and description.

If the keywords are not very competitive, it may well be. In our time it is very difficult to qualify in 1 position without backlinks and good content. Everything matters...

Possible? Yes.

Ideal? No.

If the niche isn’t competitive then a few links should do it. Most people are getting hip to the SEO game and are doing both on page and offpage SEO.

Why shoot yourself in the foot by spending time to build links without doing the proper onpage stuff?

It’s super cheap to get decent quality content these days so there’s no excuse in that department.

If the keywords are not buying keyword and not very competitive then it will be possible.
