I have a website about Home & Garden the website now has around 80 articles.
But now with the penquin 2.1 and HUMMINGBIRD update from google what are good ways to rank a website in this category with these number of articles.
Website is around 3 months old.

The answer is post more new quality articles with in-depth knowledge of Home & Garden...

It is not rocket science or a fiercely contested niche like payday loans...

Go for it and good luck...

Content is still king! Keep posting, try involving other bloggers and getting guest posts in. Start quality link building and a strong social presence. Invest a little in google adwords to show google you care ;)

You will definitely get there! Sometimes it just takes time!

Articles don't rank a site neither do on-site SEO offer any guarantee.

The best and only reliable way to rank a site are:

Quality and optimized content, your site don't need many except if you own a blog and always blog then that's different.
    Relevance
    High PR links
    Diversification

    Good luck....

I've got nothing useful to say. I thought your title literally meant in the home and garden. In which case I would suggest a good WiFi dongle. Or a MiFi unit.

Would i be wise to post to high PR blogs, web 2.0 sites, article directories, doc-pdf sharing sites, or press release sites ?

Something I found about this industry was that while it is competitive, there are a lot of chances to build relationships. Your home improvement/building companies won't link to you for nothing - most of them seem to be pretty into their SEO. Something I found worked for one site was contacting them for an opinion on a certain topic and just plugging their website in the article that would be formed from this. Sometimes it didn't generate anything, but most of the time the article at least got a social mention if not a link in return.

Quality content and backlinks. See from what sources your competitors' backlinks are coming from and try to get backlinks to your website from those sources as well. You can use services like ahref, ibacklinkpro, majesticseo etc to look up your competitors' backlinks their ranks and sources.

You need high quality back link on different high PR site such as web2 property, social bookmarking, blog commenting, forum posting etc. But it remember that when you post any article during back link it should be unique.

First of all you have to keep posting informative relevant content on your blogs and then share content on Social platform.

I don't think there will be different stratagies for each niche. In general after these updates of Google we just need to focus on creating high quality and interesting contents which attracts more visitors and easy to engage with more people.
