I was just wondering I know that if you build .ca links that will help you rank better in google canada but what if the hosting from the links is in canada too. Will that make the links even stronger or is it just the domain being .ca that makes the difference?

Not directly, but yes, they may impact. If the websites having canadian hosting, this makes their website ranking strong. And getting backlinks from strong canadian websites gives you good benefit.

From my experience, working with Canadian Websites for the past five years - hosting has not made a huge difference. The most important factor that most high ranking .ca sites have (from my experience) is having a TLD that is .ca. Further, my experience based upon the sites I have worked with and their competitors, another common shared trait among these sites for ranking well were links from .ca sites or sites specifically targeted to Canada.

If you're going for long-term staying power I would not worry so much about where your Canadian focused domain is hosted as long as it is within North America. Then, I would focus on getting links from sites that are .ca or specifically targeted to Canada. I hope that helps. :)

Thanks guys you are a huge help. For the site itself that you are trying to rank would keywords like canada or a email with a .ca on the homepage or somewhere else on the site maybe a Canadian address help that site rank in google.ca? I have heard people talking about but nobody has confirmed it through experience.

I am not stating this emphatically, but basing this upon my experience. If your site is a local business or a brand having a clear and legitimate contact address and phone number specific to the area you are serving would definitely send users and engines a signal about the areas you are serving. Creating brand pages on G+, and social networks that further "confirm" that contact information and add your "author" markup may help strengthen those signals.

Then, getting third party sites to verify that address and contact information can help too (think 4Square and yellowbook). I must state that I have found this to be most effective for business that serve a specific province or area, like the GTA. I still verify contact information for business that serve all of Canada, but I don't have enough data to say that verifying the address with citations or listing it on the home page has helped with "your keyword canada" type of searches in terms of ranking power. And I am sure there are multiple signals and factors that determine this other than just your address being listed and cited by third parties.

If you're comfortable, you could also create an author page and use authorship markup on your site. Make sure your author profile states your location in Canada. Again, this is just a thought and may or may not help - but it would add an additional layer of transparency to the site. I can't say for sure if it would indeed help strengthen any geo ranking signals.
