Hi all,

I'm currently doing some work for an online adult toy website based in the UK. One thing I've noticed is we're ranking for more keywords in the US and getting a lot of traffic from some of these. (the site only sells domestically which is why it is an issue)

Spelling-wise, the site is optimized for the UK but the main domain is .com instead of .co.uk if that makes any difference.

My guess would be maybe some of the keywords just have lower competition in the US but I'd love to get your advice and thoughts on this?

Consider refining your SEO strategy to focus more on UK-specific keywords and geographic targeting. Use Google Search Console to set your geographic target to the UK, and prioritize UK-based backlinks and local content. Additionally, consider using a .co.uk domain if feasible, and focus on creating content that appeals specifically to UK audiences.

Thanks for you're reply i will give these a go. I think GSC has depreciated the option to set a geographic target now.

yeah, you can focus on UK City-based Keywords and build links with them.UK is a suitable one

But getting other region Traffic is also good for your site case if you develop your business it might reach their audience too and you can get good sales

So, getting other region's Traffic along with that focus on the UK locally

Consider setting your target country in SC to the UK and using hreflang tags if you have different versions of the site. You might also want to localize the content more for UK users, emphasizing UK-specific terms, brands, and shipping details.

Thanks mate I think I'm going to try and make some blogs with local keywords about the products and internally link through there. I need to look into Hreflang tags a bit more though.

Nice one mate, these are some good ideas!

you can go for local SEO and build links from .co.uk related to your niche. Any quality traffic is good for your website and it will helps in ranking as well

You need to focus on UK based sites only for your niche . Geometric related strategy will help you for the qualified traffic for your sites.

Make use of those keywords that generates more traffic as you can deliver to the region its actually great. While building back links split the anchors based on search volume and focus on region that gets you more visitors.

Optimize Local SEO ,Build a High Quality Links from .co.uk and relevant to your Niche

Create links from UK sites, and focus more on local buyer intent keywords, that can increase your ranking potential in your region.

This happens to a lot of my client sites too, as you're in e-commerce this could be an opportunity for you, expand your business or start US/international shipping.

Focus exclusively on UK-based sites within your niche. Implementing a geometric-related strategy will help attract qualified traffic to your site.

Cara agar kata kunci di website kita banyak dicari oleh pengguna Google

To rank for US keywords, start by conducting thorough keyword research using tools like Google Keyword Planner. Optimize your content with these keywords in titles, meta descriptions, and throughout the text. Ensure your website is technically sound with fast loading times and mobile optimization. Build high-quality backlinks and create relevant content that resonates with a US audience. Regularly monitor your performance and adjust your strategy as needed to improve and maintain your rankings.

Even though you’ve got a .com domain, you can use Google Search Console to set your target to the UK. It’s also worth checking if the keywords you’re using are less competitive in the US, which might be why you’re ranking there. Make sure your content and meta descriptions use UK spelling and terms to better attract UK users. If you’re running ads, target them specifically to the UK to avoid wasting money on US traffic. Also, consider using hreflang tags to show search engines your content is for the UK, and keep an eye on your traffic sources in Google Analytics to see where your visitors are coming from. Lastly, look at your backlinks; if many are from US sites, it might be driving unwanted traffic, so aim to get more links from UK sites.

You can set the UK as your primary audience by setting a target country under International Targeting in Google Search Console. However, getting traffic from outside regions also adds value to your site. For better results, research and use UK-specific keywords into your content and backlink strategy. Building links from UK-based websites will further enhance your content's visibility among the UK audience.
