    Hi

I'm about to start a new niche. I have a company registered in norway and can use this to get a norwegian domain. Or I can go with info or a domain with key-wordd.com or similar.

what would you go for when trying to rank for an international keyword?

Go with hyphanted .com if EMD is not available in all TLD's

If .com isn't available...as the previous poster stated....net ot.org will work well...

My SEO business site is a .org with a PR4 and I rank very well for many keywords...Good luck...

if you want to rank in norway always use .no!!!

i`m dutch, and while it isn`t imposible to rank .coms in google.nl, .nl domains are much, much easier to rank locally..
.com is an international domain.. and wil rank anywhere. local extension wil rank only in the native country, but wil do it much easier!
ive also got .com's an blogger sites ranking great in holland. but from experience, local tld's are always the better option!

on the other hand, local domains like .no, .de, .nl and .be domains are nearly impossible to rank outside of their assigned country. if you wat to target usa market and really only usa, always use .us domains, for international oriented websites always use an international domain.
in seo terms .com/.net/org/.info are all equal internationa TLD's, and wil all rank equally well. .com is just favored because people all over the world are trained to associate the internet with .com. but for google its all the same.
from experience i actually believe google favors .org over .com.. don`t really know why, but .org's always work better for me.

for branding and creating user confidence .com domains without hyphens are always the best choice in any situation.

I would propose for a .net with your keyword. It will be better for ranking.

A local TLD will be easier to rank in that country, especially if you can get links from the country.

If you're looking internationally, then .com/.net/.org are your best bet.

But these are completely secondary to your choice of name, content and backlink strategy.

I mostly agree. I always thought the Net and the Org followed the EMD .Com, but I've had a lot more luck getting the hyphenated .Com ranked instead of the .net/org.

About the country specific TLD. You said "international keyword," so I probably wouldn't suggest it. Especially if it's in English. If you think a large portion of the searchers would come from Norway, you could definitely pick it up.

Based on what you've said, my vote in that situation, would be the hyphenated .com.

in my experience it does not matter what the domain extension is . I have been able to rank all of them equally. I have not seen any difference ever.
