do you think a more long tail domain with keywords like cheapuklaptops would be better for traffic from google?

update: just bought http://ukcheaplaptops.com/ and .co.uk

think these will be good enough domains? i obv sell laptops :) now how to rank is my question

ukcheaplaptops is not a bad domain. You might want to check how many exact searches google shows for UK (local).

As for your question on how to improve the traffic I'd recommend creating a unique product description to each of your products in your database. This seems to be a good strategy, because the main problem with e-commerce sites is that there is simply too much similar/duplicate content which gives no weight to the product pages.

After you take care of the content, you should do a very accurate on-page optimziation and a smart link building campaign.

For a link building campaign I recommend you to choose a diverse service wihch combines a rich pool of link properties + a quality private blog network.

A good such service in my opinion is "thelinkdream". I think it goes for $199 per month.

Hope this helps, good luck!

So, you are UK audience?

A few tips for optimizing websites targeting UK audience,
- Set your preferred target location in Google webmaster tools
- Submit your website to local search engines
- Submit your website to local directories
- Get backlinks from targret country
- Participate in social networking websites which are active in your target country

As far as keywords are concerned, I would prefer to use some keyword research tool for that matter... Keyword Country would be my first choice for local keyword research.

Like others here, I would focus on making the content unique on your site, writing your own descriptions of products and submitting to the local directories and search engines. I would also set up a Twitter account for the site and look to maintain a presence on it - reach out to Twitter users in the UK. I've seen so many UK users complaining about their laptops, so it's worth a go.

It's hard to beat word of mouth and offering the best deals around if you're looking to get traffic on your website, and once a reputation builds you're in a very good niche for searches.
