    Hello,

I'm going to be working with a local company helping them get to the top of google for their businesses top and secondary keywords. I've ranked several keywords to the top or near the top of google in completely unrelated niches over time without too much problem, so I have some experience.

This time it's a bit different though. When I type in their keywords (local business keywords to start getting a look at how the competition is) I get a couple yellowpages listings, and a bunch of phone numbers / locations labeled as such:

A: (insert a business phone number here) - and a link you can click to view them on the google map
B: (insert a business phone number here) - and a link you can click to view them on the google map
C: (insert a business phone number here) - and a link you can click to view them on the google map
D: (insert a business phone number here) - and a link you can click to view them on the google map

Note: All of these business and numbers are ahead of all websites for my keywords... some of them don't even have a website and are still ranking in the top 5 of google search.

Normally with regular webpage keywords I'm only competing with other websites. The yellowpages (or yellowbook) scares me a bit as they are top ranking for all of my customers keywords. I can probably deal with that, but the phone numbers / address / link to view business on the google map really throws me for a loop.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, and if so, how can I get my customers phone number at the top of that business / contact phone number list?

    Thanks so much,
    Ducky

    P.S.

Seems like it should be a pretty common question. I can't find anything using the search button here though... anyone?

This is the problem we face when trying to rank above google places. But if you look at a few different search terms you will soon find that it is possible to rank above the places listings I have seen it many times. This sort of thing was talked about alot in the 10k a month online/offline hybrid method in the offline section. I am in the same boat facing things such as yellow pages and all the high authority local business directories but believe me it is possible because you are alot more targeted than yellow pages and other directories.

As for ranking in google places that is a different story you may want to look into hiring a google places expert as it has become alot harder to rank places as of late. But just keep building those backlinks like you normally would to any other website.

You need to register the actual business to google placing in order to be listed in red on google map .. Wat google would do is send a verification mail to the actual business registered address and once u verify your business placing will show.. For now its free but i believe they will or have started charging in some countries for this listing
