Hi - today I saw something interesting. One of my competitors has about 1k backlinks, but mostly its low quality. I was wondering how he could rank that high in a medium competitive niche. Then I saw he has about 25k G+ shares/likes whatever.

Does G+ has really that big influence in the rankings?

Ranking = Onsite (content) + Activity (social media) + Authority + Links

Given that you can't know what backlinks your competitor has, it's a moot point.

Of course, Google gives it alot of power because it is their product.

Is it ok to buy these shares/likes or will google know? For an authority website

Yes It does, just contribute your links on your G+ profile and then start sharing to all the circle in which you are.
Its a sort of best indexing.

I am curious about this too. There is no doubt it helps for indexing new content. But does anyone have and experience of increased positions after applying G+ votes?

G+ is most powerful social media, we will get more Authority if we share on G+

Dear,
Now the trend of SEO is changing, it is no longer confined with backlinks. It is the need of the hour to switch to social media. So, if social media campaigns topped by link building it will yield good results.

Well, I bought about 5k Google +1. I'm gonna keep you updated about the changes in the Serps in the next few weeks.

nakamura, I would be very interested to learn about your results, because I am thinking to do something similar. don't forget to update :)

I would be real careful about buying Google+ stuff... we all know that Google is not stupid and they can see with ease that the +'s are bs. Seems like a quick way to piss them off.

Yeah mate, we gonna see.

By the way, is there any "exchange" website for Google Plus Likes?

What I usually do is, get into "Circle Share" groups / communities in G+. People add you in their circles and once per week you get added to a fresh new circle, people share it and add you. This way you get followers.

Another this is to find big communities in your niche and post your link (post) on those communities, join 10-15 and share your link with them, but remember to change your image post every now and then, so it will not look like spam.

Okay, I have a question about this. I am really not into Google + at all, never used it before for my private use.
So, does the Google +1 (in ahrefs) mean the follower? I was confused about this before. Does it mean share, like, follower, whatever?
Can someone explain that to me?

If you have site A and you check it with ahrefs, and see 5k Google+. That means they are shares, not followers. And I think I may be correct on this one.

G+ in ahrefs is counted the same as facebook, by shares or +1's.
