as per the title, i ranked a website no 1 page 1 for a local term. the site is emd, and i see it on top of the serps if i type in "keyword" in google with quotes. the thing is, i'm not getting any traffic from G. i'm beginning to think that people in my country aren't savvy enough to do exact match search, and they just do broad search for whatever they want.

how do i get ranked for broad search? thanks

I never heard about someone searching like "keyword", how's your website ranked on keyword (without "") ?

Searchers don't use quotes while searching on Google. So if your site is ranked on the first page when you search for your target keyword in quotes, you will only get a tiny amount of traffic. However, if your site is ranked on the first page for your keyword without quotes, you will get a good amount of traffic.

So, what you should do now is search for your keyword without quotes and find out where your site ranks for it.

I wonder, if you were building backlinks with keywords and quotes.

this is happening yto me aswell, I understand the results diplayed with the quotes are different from the results that don't use them, but It doesnt make any sence to rank for the exact phrace the user is tipping and don't getting the results other websites are getting

You should also clear your history / cache because if you don't, you'll see your website ranking higher than what it really is.

nope, just the money terms and a few long tails and generic. none of them with quotes. i read somewhere that exact match is more targeted, which is why i tried checking that. quotes = exact match results if i'm not mistaken.

exactly. where do you live? i live in a developing country so i guess the users here aren't that savvy to begin with. i've enjoyed traffic from ranking exact match terms before, but that was from a US kw.

this is new to me.. thanks. anyway i know i just need to build more links + authority now. thanks a lot guys!

Im ranking for US keywords, no tergeting the local market, since It wont be profitable in my Niche, I really dont end to understand how Google algorithm works, I remember I startet to rank for a High competition keyword, and all of a sudden, it stoped ranking

How many searches does the phrase have ?

A lot of local niches don't get much traffic in the first place. So you gotta build lots of geo-targeted pages and rank all your inner pages as well. More than half my traffic comes from the hundreds of long tails I target, not the 5-10 main phrases.
