    Hi..

I've cleared my cache etc.. yesterday and today in my browser and just checked one of my sites. Shows im currently #30 on page 3. (which were also the stats yesterday)

Now i've just checked the site with 2 different trackers and one is showing #10 and the other #42??
They were showing these positions yesterday too. Im confused :)

Don't trust most rank trackers. They normally give shit results.

Ranking is based on several factors. With google (especially) there are many ways to get incorrect results.
    - The originating IP needs to be based in the same country as you want to check the ranks. Using a proxy from China to get U.S. ranks will come up with wrong results when you're cross referencing using an american IP.
    - Previous searches have a weight based effect to try and determine what you're looking for. This has to be cleared after every search
    - If you use a logged in account then all the information you provided will skew the results to create a more personalized SERP.

I personally use Rank Reporter by Inspyder Software. It has a ton of features built in such as a built in scheduler, option to email ranking results and even the ability to add your own search engines to the software. The main reason I like it though is that it does not have a silly monthly recurring charge option like some of these online services do. It is a one off cost. Being a desktop software it has no limits on the number of projects, websites and keywords that you can load into it. I just set my sites up and schedule all of them to run daily .. then I get emailed the changes daily .. all on auto. If you want to run things quicker without the scheduler, it also has buiilt in support for proxies. I made a page about it on my website.

Market Samurai used to be my only rank tracking tool, but what annoyed me the most about it is that I had to sit there and do the rank checks manually. When you have a lot of sites and a lot of keywords, it is a serious waste of time sitting there waiting for results to be retrieved. I have not used their rank track tool in about a year so have no idea how good or crap it is now. They never had a scheduler put into it, hence why I stopped using it!

As for the differences in ranking results, there are many different reasons for such dramatic changes in results. But to name just a few of them, there are different data centers for Google which will provide different results, so depending on which tool you use combined with which proxy/vpn/ip address, the results will always be different. Ranking results will be localized, so the ip address will impact the ranking result. Changes can also happen every second as I have seen when doing hourly ranking checks. This does depend though on how active your niche is. If you are in a competitive niche with a competitive keyword, then the results in ranking will be continuously changing. Within minutes I have seen my rankings jump from page one to page two and back again. All this means is that your current level of indexed tiers of links are not sufficient enough to outrank your competitors. Don't think that you are the only one competing for your keyword and number one rankings! So are your competitors .... what you do and what they do will make your rankings jump up and down every second of the day!
