I have a WP blog and it ranks well, it's an aged domain, but it looks dated and loads slowly.

So I am moving the site to a better server and have a new theme and now Yoast SEO.

There are some posts that are old and outdated and I wonder if deleting them will hurt. They hardly get traffic.

Also, I have some old posts that aren't original from a ezinearticles or something and I'd like to get rid of those and only keep good original content and don't know if that will hurt to delete either.

And lastly, the site was set up as domain/category/post and I've heard that domain/post is better. Dunno the truth.

    THANK YOU!

Getting rid of them shouldn't hurt. Better yet, 301 them to another page.

    Sente,

Smeems has it right. If you remove anything, be sure and 301 redirect it to an equivalent page or at the very least the home page of your blog. Since your site is so old it undoubtedly has links indexed in Google so you don't want to miss out on that traffic.

Here are some good tips about moving your site,

    Hope that helps,

no matter what is better domain/post or domain/category/post ... it's usually not better for the site to change the structure after a very long time without either keeping the old content in place and canonicalization to the new content ( basically keep the old content and ranking untill search engines have had a good time to update everything ) and only after several months 301 the old pages to the new ones...
also after you change the structure of the links you might get penalized for duplicate content if the old links are gone ( untill the crawlers index the new structure properly ) plus as far as i've seen any changes in site structure affect serps in a bad way ( at least temporarily )....

in conclusion: you have to ask yourself does the benefit of changing the structure outweigh the risks of doing so?
