If all you wanted to do was get indexed by google (for a brand new site).

Just 1 technique that you always know will work that doesn't take up half your life - to simply tell google

HEY GOOGLE!!!

I just put a webpage, I think you should see it :p

What would you do?

write a load of targeted articles - publish them on article sites and blogs then ping pong the blogs to death

Start by adding your site to some bookmarking sites like digg, stumbleupon etc this helps a little, of ocurse paying for a bookmarking service will be better as you get an average of 100 bookmars enough for google to notice your site exist.

Put up an ad on usfreeads with your site link in it. Google loves this site and you will be indexed in no time.

Link my site to Squidoo, Hubpages, Wordpress blog, or Stumble and Digg it or do all of them.

This one is not fully true anymore as they have gone 'no follow' but it still cant hurt.

I have a pr3 blog, I just put a link on there it it's indexed in a few days.

I was skeptical of these methods a while back, but damn if they don't work perfectly! This and pinging gets you on in no time.

if you are willing to pay a few bucks or two, just adwords it with the keyword you want. If its one adwords, its definitely on google.

At the same time, another way is to create a tag cloud in your blog/site with the tag reference to google.

Also include a site map in the google webmasters section. This helps a lot. The last site I built got indexed with in 24 hrs. I've added a blog to this site and everytime I write an article, in my blog, it is in google with in 20 min or so.

i know work in google and get high up in it then make google find your pages - i wonder if google will ever bring out its own domain www.website.goog

I tried this last night, 6 hours later my blog was indexed by Big G.

autopinger dot com

Just put in your url and it will ping a lot of engines including G.

Use 'ping' to inform other services that you changed sth on you website and invite crawlers ;)

i know get some good link bait and go to xrumer and post about it then make it easy for webmasters to link back and then you dont have to do much work let everyone else do it for you instead.

Adding a feedburner feed to a blog and pinging it is a good idea, but the following procedure might also work. I have done all of this except for the last tip, but I have not timed the results. One day I will create a new blog and install statpress, then follow this procedure to see exactly how long it takes:
  1. Sign up for a gmail account at mail.google.com
  2. Create a personal start page at google.com/ig Click on "add stuff". At the bottom left hand of the page, click on the link "Add feed or gadget". Add your url.
  3. Now use that same google account to sign up for a blogger.com account and create a blogger blog with one post that is just a sentence or paragraph that includes a link to whatever you want indexed by google. Also include the URL in your blogger profile.
  4. Use that google account to sign up for sites.google.com . Follow the same procedure you followed for the blogger account.
  5. Use that google account to write a short paragraph/Knol at knol.google.com/k
  6. Use that google account to join orkut.com/ . Edit your profile and create a link to your page. Under the social tab you'll find a spot for your "home page". You can also edit your "company webpage" under the "professional" tab.
  7. Youtube is also owned by Google. Posting something and adding a link to your URL in the text section might help.

And here's my latest idea. Create a blog with a blogroll that includes every site that you want indexed by google. Then create a google custom "search on the fly" link on at least one of the sites in the list. Run a search, and google will instantly search all the sites on the blogroll. I think that if it searches sites that are new, it will also spider them and index them.

See google.com/coop/cse/onthefly

Got a blogroll or a directory you want to make searchable? Here's a quick and easy way to create a search engine from the links on your web page.

It's simple - just copy and paste this code.

* Copy the code below and paste it into your webpage's HTML.
* A search box will appear on that page instantly!
* When you do a search, you'll see results from the sites your page links to.

Code:
<!-- Use of this code assumes agreement with the Google Custom Search Terms of Service. -->
<!-- The terms of service are available at /coop/docs/cse/tos.html -->
<form name="cse" id="searchbox_demo" action="http://www.google.com/cse">
  <input type="hidden" name="cref" value="" />
  <input type="hidden" name="ie" value="utf-8" />
  <input type="hidden" name="hl" value="" />
  <input name="q" type="text" size="40" />
  <input type="submit" name="sa" value="Search" />
</form>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/cse/tools/onthefly?form=searchbox_demo&lang="></script>

The above post on google was based on a system I already had in place for Yahoo...

Use a yahoo screen-name to sign up for the following Yahoo properties and
immediately add links to your sites:
360.yahoo.com/
geocities.yahoo.com
bookmarks.yahoo.com/
mybloglog.com
myweb2.search.yahoo.com/
jumpcut.com/ (A yahoo video property, something like youtube. I've never used it, it might not even provide a way to post a link to your site. )
flickr.com/ (I think you can post links in comments)
delicious.com/ (Yes, its owned by yahoo.)
