I have a client that offers a local service within her state and some surrounding regions. They're looking to expand to another state. So obviously they'll need to start ranking high for "*service* in *name of new state*".

Here's the question. Is it faster to try and go for it with a new site with the main keyword in the domain name? Or is it better to use the current site and just expand it to the new state? If the better choice is the ladder, please explain what sort of changes I have to make to the site. Do I just create a new page on the site, titled "*service* in *newstate*"? Then build links for that page?

I know this may be sort of an amature-ish question, but I haven't run into this kind of situation yet.

I appreciate any and all help!

I'm not sure why I haven't gotten any answers. If anyone doesn't understand what I'm asking, and would like to do a good deed for the day, feel free to PM!

The answer is you can do both. If it was your own project I would say build a new very similar but not copied site and set off on the road of building a network. As it's for a client the best thing for them is to keep it all on the one site and just promote the new page and keywords

Sorry but I didn't notice your thread before.

My personal opinion and experience is that you keep the old website and add new pages. service/newstate
I also suggest to explain how that service can be delivered or offered in the new region and also put your main kw in the url of the new pages.

    EX:
let say that you what to offer cleaning services in NY.

    HTML:
    www.eee.com/best_cleaning_service_in_new_york.html
or try to thing what a customer that look for that service in his state/city would search on G.

I will also recomend to build many inner pages for each city/town you cover.
