If I was to make a profile on a forum, lets say about Dogs with Flees, and put a site I'm ranking for in the profile. Does this count as a backlink and does it affect my site's link juice?

Or To actually get a backlink from the site, do I have to put my link in a post on the forum?

I'm very new to this so I do apologize for the newbie question.

You'll want to find forum's with PR\Authority. You'd add your link to your profile, which would be a "generic" anchor link whether it was no-follow (more typical than a do follow). The no-follows obviously won't pass link juice, but if it's a site of authority, it'll be held to a higher
regard than a no-follow of low authority.

Don't post links in a thread (even more likely a no-follow link than the allowed profile "homepage" url), let alone create one on forums. Forum's are moderated, they will be deleted, and if they're not, you won't get any conversions from it. You'd more likely have your posts, username and IP banned with a couple of clicks, besides negativity prior to that.
