I have bought some codes that expire very soon, to buy some domains, so I must choose 6-7 domains this sunday.

I have plenty of ideas for domain names not niche related, but I'd like to buy 3 or 4 that could be good for an autoblog or an ebay store.

Could you please give me some tips on how to do this research?. I KNOW that picking good niche domains is hard, almost an art, and I will try to learn good techniques, but right now I'd like to at least learn of a few websites or free tools (or tools shared here) that could help me with this. Probably I won't pick the best domains, I don't evend know much about the 'science' behind long-tail keyword domains, but I wanna try to pick the best.

    Thank you!

I'd just use the Google keyword tool for a given niche and try to get some combination of the main keyword(s) in that niche.

A lot of it is hit and miss, I don't believe that a tool could help you that much, there is a keyword brainstorming tool that is like a thesaurus tree that might help but the site name escapes me at the moment.........

Wordtracker and Google Adwords Tools are free, and give believable stats.

Keyword research is not an exact science. It is a combination of 25% Science and 75% Art. Wordtracker catches only 2% of whole market so it is not perfect and google have more than 50% automated queries so adwords is also not perfect. Do not start with keyword research but start with profitable market research. If you got a profitable market, you will get a general idea of your keyword related to your market. After that, use any keyword research tool to get a long tail keyword. you may use adwords or wordtracker now and can try to get a low competition high search long tail keyword. but do not depend on count, just try to get as more as possible one way back links.

Short checklist to gather the market a bit more indepth. Its more or less the method which Howie is using and I got very good results with this research method.

    • use google.com and check broad match of your key to get a feeling for your market
    • look at the adwords, are there any? if yes, how many? is money made in there?
    • goto google insights and look for your key "trend" and demographics
    • make notes of all this competition/market research!
    • check competition: use google.com and insert the key with quotes ("key"), look how many pages are ranking; use google.com and insert this query: allintitle:"key" and look how much competition exists...
    • make notes of all this competition/market research!
    • while doing all of this research with google.com always keep an eye what sites are ranking in top10, what PR (PageRank) they got (use SEOquake firefox plugin to show PR and more beneath the SERPs)
    • make notes of all this competition/market research!
    • goto google keyword tool and insert your key and change "broad" to "exact" in the small dropdown. short by approx search volume and show the cpc coloumn as well
    • to target an exact country use the google adwords ad preview tool
Thats it this takes from 20-60 minutes depending on how much niches/keywords you're checking. I hope it helps, good luck.

Already forgot to say: THIS IS ALL FREE *G*
