How did you originally get started with search engine optimization?

What are some of the results that you generated for your customers?

What, in your opinion, is the single most important thing to understand about SEO?

For someone who's just starting out, what would you recommend to do first?

I originally got started with "SEO" or really IM about 10 years ago with a "private site" about making money on the internet that I marketed through clickbank. It did very well however life events got me away from IM for a number of years. I've now been back for a couple of years and mainly do SEO for local businesses.

By doing geo-targeted SEO its still relatively easy to get great results in a fairly short period of time. I can bring the vast majority of my clients to a page 1 ranking within 90 days. Not for every keyword, but can almost always give them good results within that timeframe.

The most important single factor is patience. That has been very difficult for me. I want to see results NOW! That had driven me crazy. Consistency works with SEO. I used to read that here and hate it. I still do, but at least now I believe the value of it. Nothing happens overnight... and once in a while when it does, don't depend on it and think you've hit "the system".

I'd recommend you read, read, read posts and answers on this forum from some of the more established members. They know what they're doing and it sure helps with the learning curve. Remember, you don't have to be an absolute expert to get a local business great results! So, learn and then ACT. You'll never know everything in this business, so its important you act on what you do know.

Too many people spend all of their time "getting ready" and "getting set" and never "going"!

Last thing I have is to remember that you have to learn how to market yourself as well. You could be the worlds greatest SEO but if no one knows it, you're really not in business. Pick up things from Dan Kennedy (available on the forum) and other marketing "gurus" to learn how to get your services recognized and sold!

    Good Luck
