I have offers which provide banner ads that are in (.dat) format. Sometimes I would like to make "styling" changes to these images to better fit my project. I know that a (.dat) contains some additional info (maybe related to cookies or tracking) but I don't actually know how to modify the image and still maintain that added data in the modified image. I saw some things about using MATLAB but I don't know anything about it. Is there a way to modify the image and "resave" into (.dat) format that is relatively simple?

Well OK, maybe my explanation is a bit off. My CPA company has banners, the links appear like the images on hosted on their server and they include [the link] and then follow with getimage.asp [more code] and end with .dat - I assume this has something to do with tracking the offer or cookies, maybe? If I simply save the image to my computer and modify it, I save it as .jpg or .png - so what do I lose or change when I do this? If I am losing something I need, which affects my offer or tracking or something important, how would I be able to mod the image and retain or restore the info in the original?

Simply download the image and then make the changes you want. Then host it on your server, add the link of offer in image and you are done.

umerjutt00 - That's what I've been doing. But I thought I might be having issues with tracking my leads because of whatever data might be attached or encoded into the banner image. Why is it a (.dat)? What is the purpose of it?

There will be no issues as long as the offer link is correct. You should ask your AM about the .dat image.
