This SEO stuff is super hard.

I'm using SEMrush and I see today that my site picked up two keywords that are extremely broad so I don't specifically try to target them. So I'm like, oh my goodness. Very excited, but not sure entirely how I did that.

But since I did, how can I be sure not to screw it up? I'm really just starting to understand semrush and how this whole thing works, I don't want to mess these two keywords up. They will mean a ton of extra traffic to my site if I could get them even higher.

Even better, how can I grow these words? I have 35 bloggers who blog for me twice per week on my blogging website, which advertises my product website, which is the site that picked up the keywords. I don't want to overkill the keywords.

    Suggestions welcome.

If it's the homepage of your blog which is ranking, it is due to the content which is present from the excerpts/entire posts. That is how you are ranking naturally for terms. Also, if it's a inner url or if your homepage is static, then unless the content changes, it would rank for those terms atleast at same position. If it's a blog and if you are not growing it, post wise, it would wither away and disappear after few weeks, but as the blog gains authority it would rise higher but at a very slow pace.

As for increasing the rankings for these terms at a faster pace, you have to keep the on page metrics unchanged and build good quality backlinks. Also, while building the backlinks make sure you use limited percentage of direct anchor text and majority generics.

Think of long tail keywords as the water that will eventually cause the vessel to rise.
If you took these phrases and trimmed them a little, would you have slightly better keywords.
Sort of take a 6 word long phrase, and trim it to 5 (or 4).
Google is giving you a clue that it likes this aspect of what you are doing, so if it's worth it, hone in on shorter versions of the phrases.

Just an obso - correct me if I'm getting this wrong but...
A self confessed noob employing 35 bloggers? And not really sure what to target and what results mean?
I might be getting the wrong idea here, but it seems the cart is so far in front of the horse, the horse might as well be on its way to the glue factory.
That's sounds like serious capital investment utilised along the lines of the "throw enough sticky stuff at the wall and see if some sticks" school of marketing.

List down keywords that are naturally ranking and work upon improving their positions through SEO.

You're not getting it wrong. I'm not new in business. I've been in business for 16 years, I am new to understanding SEO and how the traffic works. I have worked for a LOT of years without knowing numbers. How I've done it, I don't know. But I have. I imagine if I had a good grasp of SEO and numbers long ago, I'd be a millionaire about 8 years ago. But if it takes me another 5, that's okay =)

So yes, throw enough sticky and it does stick.

The one thing I did was I gave my bloggers a list of keywords phrases - I guess they're called long tail keywords, and each of those had the broad keywords in them that I picked up in the search engine. But the bloggers don't target the main URL, they target specific pages within the site. So I'm still confused, but could you imagine my face when I woke up this morning and checked and poof....they were gone anyway.

It's like it never even happened. Just disappeared. That fast.

    *tears*
