Well, a while ago (maybe a month) I set up a blog for testing purposes... I didn't link to it, didn't expect anyone to visit, etc. I had a lot of articles up so I would be "prepared" for when I decided to go live.

Well, it's averaging in about several hundred unique hits a day, with hits from google, even though I haven't really done anything to get those hits.

So I've decided, to continue with this site. What would be the best way to make money from this? Just place adsense ads on the top?

Also, is it a bad sign if I don't see comments? I have comments enabled, but I've seen only maybe two, both of which were spam. Access logs show some visitors are coming back multiple times, so I would expect a few comments here and there... but none. Is this fine?

And a domain... is it necessary? The blog is being hosted on a directory on my personal domain... It's a PR4 domain, but the content on it is completely unrelated so I am wondering is that going to affect the blog's search engine hits in any way?

Mail spam, too! Is that a good way to bring in activity? I have around 50,000 emails of people who are actually interested in the content of the site... would sending them emails be worth it? If anyone has experience with using email to bring activity. . Please tell me if you made a profit from sending lots of mail.

Thanks for the help. . .

I was considering to have like, a "contest" of sort where people who refer other people (assuming I get a forum running) and make the most non-crap comments would win a certain amount of currency in the game my site is about. Good idea?

And what do you think about pop-up ads? Is the money made from it worth the amount of visitors you might lose?
