    Hi all.

I have a client who has just signed up to me this month. They are a cat vet based in a city. They are already in business, but moving building. They have never had a website before.

Their website is due to go live in May. Local SEO is something im still learning, but I've found this guide which i'll be following:
    http://thesiteedge.com/local-seo-guide/

It seems very in depth and easy to follow.

I have a time allowance of 2 working days a month on the client. My overarching plan is below - does this look right, would you change anything?

    Month 1:
    - Keyword Research. I think my keyword research would just be looking at terms such as:
    "Cat Vet <city>"
    "Cat Vet <district of city>
    - Revise and write any further content needed for service pages. The client has had a PR company write content for some of the service pages but not all.
    - Create & write content for a localised page on the clients site aka "Cat Vet <City>. The client wants to market towards 3 areas of the city, central, south east & south west. Would I just create 1 page for "Cat Vet <City> or multiple pages for each district (i would manually spin the content so each page was unique)

    Month 2:
    - Continue with the local page content and set pages live
    - Audit competitor citations for any listings found using the following operator: “Brand Name” “phone number” “address” -site:domain.tld
    - Compile a master list of citations
*Note - I don't have access to any paid services such as white spark or bright local, but I could pay for them, that is why i have outlined the search operator method in month 1.

    Month 3:
    - Finalise my master citation target list from auditing competitor citations
    - Get developers to implement schema as per the guide i've linked to (section 3)
    - Create Google my business page and send off for the postcard verification so it arrives for the website going live
    - Create 10 web 2.0 properties containing 5 pages of unique content on each.

Month 4 - Website Goes Live
    - Google My business page optimisation
    - Start submitting the business to the list of local citations i've compiled through month 2 & month 3
    - Insert links into already published web 2.0 article to the client site
    - Advise the clients PR company to write & syndicate a press release about the companies new premises & website.

    Month 5 -
    - Continue citation building from the list i've compiled
    - Write a email template for the client to send to customers to get a g+ review or facebook review. Talk them through the reasoning for this and how to best target people with the email to get reviews
    - Insert links into already published web 2.0 article to the client site

    Month 6 -
    - Insert links into already published web 2.0 article to the client site
    - Purchase a white spark / bright local niche citation package

The client has signed up for 6 months at 2 days time per month.

Does the above look right, am I missing anything?

If the client was to continue post 6 months what would activity look like?

    I would expect the following:
-"general" seo link building, guest posts, niche directory submissions, press releases, tiered link building from web 2.0 properties or PBN, sponsoring local events/ charities, guest lecturing at local colleges/universities to acquire backlinks
    -continuing to build/buy citation submissions.
-Writing blogs to publish on the client site

    Thanks in advance all.

You have a good plan laid out already, what help do you do need? As for the districts, I don't think there is a need, city pages should be enough otherwise it could guess messy.

    Thanks for this.

I was putting it up as a sanity check, or for anyone more experienced than myself to highlight anything that I missed out, perhaps i've listed in the wrong order etc.

    Thanks.

When doing local SEO you need to focus on creating local citations (on sites like Yelp, Yellow Pages..). This will not only help you for your SEO campaign but will also drive a targeted local traffic, because these citation sites are pretty popular for local services.

Month 1: Local keyword research should also include CITY + KEYWORD
Month 2: Use BrightLocal Citation Burst, free to sign up, you can find your citations for free and input them in yourself
Month 3: Don't use web 2.0's for the business unless you have a content voice and angle for them in addition to having them be fully branded. Maybe have one 2.0 be cute pictures of animals they treat. Another 2.0 could be pet tips etc. Just don't make it look spammy.
Month 4: Press Release should be PRNewsire worthy imo, and follow up with all the journalists in the local metropolitan to see if they need a vet for any upcoming animal segments that are just now starting to be put on the content calendars for spring.
Month 5: Use grade.us for the feedback magnet, plus they have a nice widget to put on the site. Be sure to add context to reviews for 2.0 repurposing
and I am going to stop there. Personally (and I sell thousand dollar seo packages every month) I would recommend this:

Month 1. Citation Audit + Site Audit + Competitor Audit: uncover backlinks, keywords AND citations/directories. Before you do this, you need to create a GMB profile first, because all citation audits need to happen AFTER you have your info straight with Google.
Month 2. Create Local Landing page(s) for areas they serve. Don't be afraid to combine keywords into a master landing page if they all have the same intent i.e. Pittsburgh Vetinarian, Vetinarian in Pittsburgh. If there's no service differentiation than have the homepage be the landing page.
Month 3. Create unique branded 2.0's and insert schema mark-up along with building citations.
Month 4. Create a feedback magnet and send out an email to all current/past clients and tell them for every review they will get they will donate a $1 to the local animal shelter. This is newsworthy and can be used for press release material. Follow up with the local newsteam to see if they would like to cover it.
Month 5. Build twitter following by following all the followers for the local same niche based local businesses i.e. pet stores, kennels, groomers and other vets. Also follow followers of the city's elected officials, sports teams, and other notable twitter accounts.
Month 6: Petition your followers with a message to visit your fb page/youtube channel (if they don't have a channel started this is a huge ranking boost to have geolocational data within video descriptions and titles) and do the $1 per like campaign with the local shelter.
Month 7: Create leadmagnet that is downloadable for email optin, you will want to build a list for shots and check-ups. You might want to do this step before Month 4 to capitalize on all the traffic from the contests and social media interactions.

I would go like this (which has worked for me):

    1. Optimize Homepage Speed (to be better than competitors)
    2. Build local citations
    3. Get Google+ +1s and shares and followers (for ranking in Google Places)
    4. Build forum/member profile links.
