I'm not talking about blackhat schemes here or some temporary jobs.

I'm talking about REAL, LEGITIMATE BUSINESS that brings you enough money so you can live off it.

Doesn't matter what kind of business it is, it might be a vine store or hair saloon, but I guess it will most likely be something internet related.

I'm also addressing people who actually built the business themselves from the ground up rather than inherited it.

I'd like to ask business owners - how did you build up your company?

How long it took to reach the level where you are satisfied with it, what where the biggest problems?

Would like to hear your stories.

    Thank you in advance.

The biggest challenge you will face in running an ecommerce business is taxes and tracking expenditures. When you move money in and out of paypal and multiple bank accounts gets really hard to keep up.

My advise get a program like quickbooks or excel and keep note of every transaction in and out as they happen. It's the only way to stay on top.

We worked for 2 years with no/very little income building our online travel agent. It now pays me, my wife and 2/3 staff. We were only able to do this because we owned another business that was able to support us during that time.

Our licencing costs were over $30,000 and $8000 p/a ongoing. We've spent maybe $30,000 on other costs including design, marketing and computer systems. We bought a existing 11 year old site that was ranked in the 20/30's in a very competitive travel niche and have taken 2 years to get it top 5 for most of it's searches using long term strategies, both white and very black hat.

So lots of money and lots of hard work
