Hi all,

So in a thread yesterday, I read about topical clusters.
For a while now, I've been writing buyer intent posts, and random informational posts with random high volume keywords just to fill out my site and potentially get traffic.

I am kinda new to the term topical cluster. Does this mean that all my informational posts should be about the products I promote in my buyer intent posts, and then internally link to them?
If I understand correctly, managing my informational posts this way will push the posts of my buyer intent keywords higher in the rankings?

I've planned out a lot of content last night with this way of thinking, but I want to be sure that I understand this correctly.

Thank you.

Don't blame you, there is not much clarity on blog posts / youtube.

Writing about each product would be a bit too specific, you need to write about the topics.

E.g if your main article was " The best metal gloves" and listed 10 different products, your cluster articles would be writing about metal gloves,

Example for each post.

  • How to care for metal gloves?
  • Which metal to go for in metal gloves?
  • Are metal gloves good for protection?
  • Are metal gloves heat resistant?

Best way to find topical articles to write is go into ahrefs keyword explorer, search for "metal gloves" and then click the questions section, and find some questions with low search volume and low competition, the more article you write about metal gloves, the higher the search volume and competition you can choose.

Try and write as many as possible, I tend to aim for around 40, although with some niches it's hard to find that much in a sub topic.

So far i'm linking all my cluster articles to my "best xxxxx" product page, and i'm not linking back from it. However this is something i'm going to experiment with in the next few months.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Indeed, I couldn't find any useful information on this in Google.

But you confirmed what I think is correct. I've planned this kind of content out, so time to start writing :)

Yeah it's best to plan for keywords, gives you a strategy for targeting lower search volume and competition first and working your way up. Also gives you an overview of how many articles you expect to publish in the cluster.

Once you have completed around 4 sub topic clusters, e.g "metal gloves" "cotton gloves" "nylon gloves" "steel gloves" you can then write an article on "best gloves" which will be high competition and rank for it, with all the sub clusters pointing to it.
