I've done a bit of research regarding sub-domain already, but I can't really find anything regarding separate niches. What I want to do is have an umbrealla company domain name and each sub domains would offer a different service in a different industry. For example:

    company.com - Home Page
    niche1.company.com - Industry 1
    niche2.company.com - Industry 2

I want to know if this would mess with the ranking at all? Assuming I have rank for the company.com already.

Really? Nobody? I thought everyone here was a self proclaimed expert. I guess I'll run tests myself and release this ground breaking information.

For a PBN I assume, right?

Perhaps possible IF the site is large enough. If you do a 20 page sites with 10 on iphonescreens.xxxxx.com and 10 on cheaptickets.xxxxx.com I think you'd have a problem. But get yourself a few hundred or thousand pages throughout a few niches and it MIGHT work. But you may have to be the guy to test it ;) Never seen anybody here do this.

Thanks for the reply. No this is not for a PBN at all, this is for a company that would use the root domain as information page and sub-domains as separate trading names.

    So my example would be:

    companyname.com
    tradingname1.companyname.com
    tradingname2.companyname.com

    and so on......

Each trading name would be in a different niche though, not the same industry. So tradingname1 could be in building construction, where tradingname2 could sell cheese.

They would all be legitimate business name under an umbrella company name.

I guess I would have to be the one to test it out. :)

I have a gaming site where I use subdomains for different games but they belong to the same niche. I believe that your plan should work as all the subdomains will represent different sites, though the root domain is same.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that each sub-domain would act as it's own website.

My main question would be that if company.com already ranks for a certain keyword in a particular topic - for example "marketing" - would the sub-domains popping up with different topic affect the ranking of the root. I'm assuming as they're treated as separate website then not. Just seeing if anyone is doing something similar or the same.

Nothing to worry about. I have a similar website with sub-domains and it is doing fine, so I would say go for it.
