So things i have already done .

    1. Researched for a good keyword with HIGH CPC and low competition using google keyword tool.
    2. Found a matching domain which is brandable

    Things in doubt.

    1. Exact match domain or a generalized one ?
    2. What is the best link building strategy currently ?

You can check Editorial links,PBN and Guest Post for the best link building strategies.
Moreover;Web2.0 using Expired domains,Yahoo Answers QnA,SOcial Bookmarking etc are the basic but good to rank.

I suggest you go for a branded domain and play long-term. Possibly targeting multiple related keywords in the future.

    Unless it's a Churn & Burn project.

As for linkbuilding... the safest way is to go manual imo.

What works the best for me as the safest / most long-term strategy are:

    Low obl blog comments
Manually created nad updates Web 2.0
PBN dedicated to just 1-2 sites
Broken linkbuilding - contact other webmasters in the niche to replace broken links on their sites with yours.

I disagree, I do not think a branded domain will be much of any help.
