I am new to SEO and have done a lot of reading on this forum. There are still certain questions unanswered.
I have set up 2 mns with EMD and both are on first page of Google at the 9th position.

Both keywords are low competition and has 2000 local monthly searches.

One website has 1 article and other one has 3.
The website with 3 articles first ranked in the top 3 but once i started adding more articles, it was out of page 1. coincidence i guess. But now its on 9th position.
I haven't used any kind of tools and have created 70+ web 2.0 for each article and bookmarked each of them on 30+ bookmarking sites.

My question is how many articles do i need to include on these sites to reach top 3.
Moreover, should i use other keywords(secondary, if yes please tell me how exactly are the chosen. The secondary keywords that i used was of the same niche but did not include the secondary keyword. I guess i got that wrong) for the rest of the articles on the website or the primary keyword itself on all 10 articles?

Many of these questions might sound silly, but still i would appreciate your opinions.
    Thanks in advance.

Your articles, if you really want to go all out, should be 500+ words and include an image or video.

    7 articles should be good.

Do not try and do too much keyword targeting for each article.

Yes i usually try to keep my articles at 600+ words and the keyword density is around 1-1.5.

Say, i use 7 articles on each site, should i target the same keyword on all 7 of them? When i asked this question before, someone told me to use secondary keywords although i haven't got an idea of what exactly a secondary KW is.

I think you should target a different keyword per article.

If you're building links to your article don't just use 1 keyword it will look unnatural to penguin (Googles new algorithm)

I had a few sites drop for using just 1or 2 keywords, the sites that stayed had links built for 5 keywords

Try lsi word think of word that hve the same meaning or try a thesaurus, but using Google keyword tool is great for see how many searches that keyword gets per month

Another question i have is once i add more articles and follow the simple seo plan that i mentioned in my first post, is there anything else i can do to improve my ranking. Without making use of any tools of course. ^_^

If you have added new content you can then ping the website to let the search engines know, try ping o matic or others like it, this will get the new content indexed quicker

Share on your face book and ask your friend to like, make some web2.0 blogs of your own and link, (in general any manual linking will help, it just takes up a lot of time)

    Thanks Mark.

One more thing, while i am setting up web 2.0 for the secondary keywords, should i link it to the main domain or to the secondary articles itself?
