Hi guys!
The sane hatter here.

I would like to ask you for your pro opinion about this.

Let's say there are 2 sites in the same niche, targeting same keywords, and are with very similar backlink portfolios, and on top of that, they have several PBN links referring to both of them, can this be the problem?

I have 2 sites sharing that situation, 1 is performing well, while another 1 is falling.

Could the thing that I have mentioned above be the reason for that?

Thank you

as long as the 2 websites are not linked to each other and google can't figure out they both belong to you you're safe.

I don't think so. If google finds out that both sites are yours and that you're building links they're going to deindex both of your sites, not just derank one of them.

Most likely, the site that's failing is too similar to the one that's ranking and google decided to only rank one of them.

Risk of penalization; diversify backlinks for better SEO health.

My suggestion would be to start diversifying the link profiles. Focus on building more natural, high-quality backlinks specific to each site, reducing the overlap, and phasing out reliance on any questionable PBNs.

I've done this before and had no problem... both sites were rising.
OK... the better site was doing much better.

It's completely fine to be your own competitor rather than competing with others, just dominate the niche.

2 years ago, I completely dominated the niche with my sites like 4 sites in the top 10 but they were micro niche sites with low CPM.

For Link Building:

- Do the same but add a little diversity in links and anchors. Whenever I worked on top 10 projects, especially for off-page SEO, I always preferred to download the competitor backlinks from ahrefs, analyze, bring out the free and paid opportunities and mostly buy or build the links where we found the competitor's presence.
- Make separate social media accounts for each website
- Use different content with different titles.

The most important thing is, that UI/UX must be different and unique.

It's possible that the similar backlink profiles and PBN links are causing issues with one of your sites. Google might see this as spammy, which could be hurting its performance.

I'd suggest diversifying your backlinks and focusing on creating unique, valuable content for the struggling site. Staying within Google's guidelines is key to long-term success.

This is the way - don't worry about positions, own the whole first page!

I would work on some separate links pointing to your falling site, completely different from the ranking site.
