Hey guys, big question here... I've managed to rank a site real well for a very competitive keyword for big G's main portal (www.google.com)

But I realize there's more money to be made if I were to rank my site well for my country's G portal (www.google.com.sg)

So do you have any idea how to rank well for one's own country's Google portal?
I'm at the second result page for my country's G portal. Just 2-3 positions away to first page.

In the first result page, the first 6-7 positions are taken by the company I'm trying to promote. My main competitor is at 8th position. 9th and 10th are nothing relevant. So should I start building links in SG-hosted websites or...?

I think it's the same procedure for that country as for US.

You will need to sign up for G##gles Webmaster Tools and set the Geo-target settings to your country.

    Home Page:
But if he changes the geo-target, does the .com rankings start dropping?

As well as geo-targeting, you could create another site with a ccTLD (.sg) domain or host the site in Singapore.

You can target multiple locations using Google Webmaster Tools.

Apart from setting your target country in WMT, you should build backlinks from .sg sites that will do the job. Some has also reported that having a hosting in the same country would have slight benefit, I guess it could be because of good performance.

You don't have to target the country in GWT if you don't want to use them, I haven't noticed any significant benefit from that. But you might as well if you're already using them. Just build links, that will do the trick.

It does have significance. My website was nowhere to found, I was confused, then I figured I forgot to set that in GWT.
