I am trying to rank some keywords and I use a tool called kwfinder. I look for keywords with low SEO competition. Meaning that the people ranking for the keywords presently have low PR, TF and CF. If they are very look I figured it would be easier to rank those keywords. Is this the way to go about it?

Some keywords the competitor ranking high for them have a TF and CF of in the high 40's and page ranks of like 4 and above and I figure to jump ahead of those established sites would be very hard.

Am I going about this the right way?

That's the easier way of doing things. That's what I did, as well, when I was just starting in this business. Trying to take over high competition keywords will take you months and even years. But whatever keyword you may choose, make sure that you aim for quality at all times, especially when writing content for your website.

You need to look at their on-page seo as well.

No, they won't show you that but they will show you the volume of traffic as well as the CPC people are paying for a keyword. Generally high volume keywords with low competition are best, but one thing I like to look for are weak competition keywords with high Adwords CPCs.

Okay this might be a dumb question but I am a newbie. What does low comp keywords with high CPC mean? Are they easily attainable for ranking in other words. I never understood the difference in pricing for CPC. I see some for like $.05 and then some like $5.50. I am not running Adword campaigns but simply trying linking and writing good content to rank keywords I am gunning for.
