[Question] Content or Links - What to Focus On?

Hey guys, I am coming to this point where I am a little lost

I am pretty decent at writing good content. Like quite good. I also have a clue on how to build links, + I have tools and experience in it.

My question is - what should I focus on? When I do everything, I end up feeling overwhelmed and end up lacking focus completely.

I can also outsource either one or another, but not both. A lot of my articles rank well, but not too well (I mean only few are in top 3). That means I need more links.

But once I start building links, I forget to write content, and get my site content updated only once in a blue moon (an article every couple weeks or so).

What should I focus on? What will be the best ROI? (I already pay an SEO agency a few hundred bucks every month for some links)

Obviously, both writing an link building are important if you want your articles to rank. But I think that you're the only one who can answer this question. Since you know how to write your content and build links, you can take your pick of which one you want to outsource. You can go by which one you enjoy doing more, or choose the one that's easier for you to do. It's definitely a good idea to not do both at the same time, if you've figured out that you tend to neglect one in order to focus on the other. Good luck.

As shared by @Writerly both writing good contents are link building are equally important. I am sharing this from personal experience, I was ranking for nearly 200+ keywords in top 10 pages last year purely on the basis of contents (no backlinks), but when google did medic update, my site came down to 5 keywords and it was then i realize that backlinking is equally important. Of course you can rank for low comp keywords without backlinks but to gain authority and long term position in serps it is very important to build backlinks. As you shared you are good at writing, you can outsource link building and keep producing good contents for your site yourself.
