Question: are Glype proxies useful for anything SEO? account creation, manual posting?

I was working on gathering a fat stack of proxie sources and noticed some labeled as Glype.

I was aware of the style but didn't know the name for it. Some parts of my current scheming would involve manual account creation, comments and blogs. From that perspective, are Glype just as effective as say... an L2 anon?

If yes, am I crazy to imagine that I could "roll my own" on as many PHP freehosts that I can stick my finger into?

btw, yes I am aware of Scrapebox but I feel like I will learn more by doing things the hard way for a few weeks.

Some of the glype proxies are ok. They use curl instead of http or socks proxies connection. Speed can still be an issue depending on the server.
