Well, let me start off saying, from what I've read here already, to promote my blog I need to do a lot of article submission, pinging, Social Bookmarking and stuff. But, I want to know, if I'm posting on forums with a link to my blog in my signature, would that be good for a lot of backlinks, or would those not count. I'm a bit lost with this, lol. I'm trying to get a pagerank 8 blog (not sure if it's possible, and if it is, it would probably take a while). So, for a beginner, I would like to know if you have any other recommendations besides: article submission and social bookmarking. Those are the only ways to build backlinks that I know of.

forum sigs cant hurt you, real good for traffic too.

good look on that PR8.

video submission is good too... try the $1 traffic geyser trial and cancel it when your done.

maybe you could try building blog farms (as backlinks) that will link to your real blog site.

nothing beats quality links and good content, try finding a content network that will give you links from quality sites, if you have the cash you can try fantomaster's 20 links a day service

They count as long as they are not nofollow, but I don't think it will help much because all links are coming from the same domain.

First of all, the Pagerank hasn't got much to do with your SERPs...not anymore! When you want to have a high PR, you need links from sites which have a high PR. I would suggest high PR blogs (pay attention on the nofollow). But if you want good SERPs for your site, you have to build much links, especially links from strong sites. You can get them by joining photo communities...viedeo communities and so on. Create a profile and include a link to your site.

Ahh, so SERPS is more important than PR then?
Depends on what you plan on doing w/the site. If you wanna rake in funds from paid banners, advertisers want high PR. If you wanna sell products you want your site seen so you want to rank high in serps. Lots of variations inbetween.

Question: Just an example. Lets say I have a blog that's about the category "movies". Would it be possible for me to have first page google rankings for three different posts about three specific movies? Hope that makes sense -_-

What I meant was getting Blog Posts indexed. Do I have to gain back links for that specific post in order to do that?

I have a quick question, is it worthwhile getting good backlinks from pages which are not related to your niche e.g. my blog is about health supplements and i get a backlink from a finance site

Take every link you can get, especially when they are good;)

It is possible. It just takes time and backlinks. You want all your "movie A" links pointing to your "movie A" post and not just your home page. The same for movies B & C.

Ideally, you want the links from related sites but if they come from a good neighborhood, a link is always better than no link. Take what you can get!

Hmm, I'm confused about how I should go about getting backlinks for a specific post. Any ideas? So far I have Digg, StumbleUpon and Propeller in mind for getting specific posts looked at, but besides that I don't know... I need to search these forums more, lol.
