I don't really understand the whole deal with getting web 2.0 site backlinks, do they weigh a lot more in terms of indexing and pr?

    A few reasons would be

    - You "control" the page and it's content so you can post relevant content to your niche
    - You can embed your link right in the middle of an article so it is surrounded by relevant content
    - The domain PR is usually pretty high so they are indexed well
    - They make good buffers for backlink blasts so you don't have to worry about "google dancing" as much

Basically they are just part of an overall scheme.

    1. Google know their domains and can identify the most popular of them.
    2. Google know a lot of webmasters use them to submit (spam) content & URLs.

Now do you think Google has any reason to give any value to these links? I would say hell no. Yet, web 2.0 backlinks are supposed to help a little bit.

Web 2.0's are just websites that anyone can create a page on, you can register a blog on wordpress.com, write some content and point some low quality backlinks to it. Now you can point the blog on wordpress.com to your money site, and it's a good worthwhile backlink. (in theory)

Sure, google knows these websites are used in a spammy way sometimes, this doesn't mean they can devalue links or pages from these sites at all. Its really risky to do that because the legitimate webpages could also get caught.

I believe that they are as valuable as any other link, but a lot of them are no-follow and won't be worth anything except pushing traffic.

Google knows that we have a software for almost everything! Be it account creation on web2.0 sites, or be it blog commenting, forum posting... and what not..!!! We even have tools to scrape millions of niche relevant blogs.. Sort them out on the basis of PR or Nofollow/******** (done by bots) and the post different kinds of posts by spinning on them in an automated manner by using the best IP Addresses! So for what all kind of backlinks, the link juice/Link Value will be decreased by google? :p

Actually I think this can be easily done.

Quality sites doesn't rely on Squidoo kind of links anyway.
    Only spam sites do.
Quality sites receive enough links from other real sites.
Why does Google need Squidoo kind of backlinks to rank sites?

If Google decide to ignore Squidoo links starting tomorrow... what would happen?
Who will get hurt? Nobody except the SEO spammers.

Don't just make web 2.0 backlinks, since google can find it suspicious.

Web2.0 backlinks are a good way to get links pointing to your site even though I think their power has receded somewhat over the past 6 months. But the important thing to realsise here is you must have link diversity.

If you just concentrate on web2.0 you are going to struggle you need to get as many different kinds of links to your sites, like article directories, directories, comments, forums etc mix iy up as much as possible and don't forget to give these pages some linklove too or they won't bet indexed and you'll be wasting your time
