I started my website 2 weeks ago, slowly building backlinks to it. The problem is until 2 days when i checked my website in google and it showed me in #2. Now i checked my stats in analytics and statcounter and i DO have an increase in traffic.

However, this is only on my PC. I then checked on other pc's and on my ********* server and i'm ranking on page 2, #1. How come ? I deleted cookies, de-logged from gmail, checked with firefox, safari, chrome and the same thing everywhere, I am ranking #2 main page, but only from my pc. Why ?

I think google is back to tracking searches. I remember at the start of the year they get this new thing where your most visited sites come up first.

  3. may be ur website is marked with starred results in google... try to remove that link from starred results. u may get the exact rank position of ur website in google.

yeah, i got that before, too. I almost jumped when i saw my website ranked #1 for my main keyword, only to realize that it was cached. Delete cache, cookies and refresh a few time and the reality will come back :)

Google tracks what you search and click on. If you've been checking your ranking regurlarly and also occassionally clicking on your website Google will start to think it's one of your favourite websites and thus promote it to the top on your PC so that it's easier for you to find it next time.

This has happened to me too, however when I log out of my google account and go into private browsing mode with firefox I can go see what my real ranking is. If that doesn't work it make me think that perhaps Google is remembering you not by cookies but by I.P. address.
