There are a lot of questions from people like "I added a new PBN backlink and my rankings dropped, is that normal?"

And the answers usually are "Yes, this is normal, wait some time and rankings will rise again."

I don't know if I disagree with that, BUT ...

What about when a person is constantly adding new backlinks? Like, add a link today, add a couple in a week, add a few a week later, and on and on. Wouldn't that site *ALWAYS* be jumping around in SERPs?

Same for sites that aren't doing SEO, but are getting backlinks naturally. A popular site will be getting new backlinks all the time, forever. Wouldn't that site be jumping around in SERPs, forever?

But surely you'd be targeting different keywords, different pages on your site while doing this ?

Not if most links are brand or naked url anchor text.

the first link to a small or quiet site will give you those huge bounces, however once google sees a pattern in velocity then the bounces will be more up and less down.

If you're talking about drip feed, yes it will go up and down, if it is that google has flags on your shit it'll be 'sandboxed' longer than when a single link is sent, it may also help dig you out of the sandbox depending on the 'trust' passing from some links so it's a gamble.

Don't fuck with it: You'll see results sooner
Fuck with it: You'll possibly see better results but possibly may take more time

Get better quality backlinks in smaller quantities. Or a new website, if your website is under penalty there's a chance it'll stay that way until you fix whatever caused your penalty
