I was to begin incorporating press releases into my SEO strategy for some of my clients. I use a distribution service that only distributes to higher level media outlets. Fox, NBC, ABC, etc etc

    Here's the question:

Ex. Client has a ton of site authority and ranks well with just publishing pages and doing 0 inbound linking. A press release I just had written anchors the keyword we want to rank for and currently the page the link is pointing at has 0 inbound links. Could anchoring the keyword potentially do damage to the ranking of the page? I normally wouldn't have that many keyword anchors, but because it's a press release would it matter?

Of course 'rich anchors' could have negative effect. Stay away from those. Go with naked or generic.

Generally for press releases I use them as pillow links and use only naked URLs and brand names for anchors. Definitely avoid any primary or even lsi s
