FYI, I am new to seo so I am not sure on a few things. I am attaching a picture that I found on this form that shows a simple backlink strategy.

    Goal:

I want to get listed on the first page of google and stay there. I don't have to be first, but I do need to stay there.

I am looking at a targeted niche which gets (depending on the domain) between 1000 and 4500 Global Monthly Search Volume (google keyword tool). I don't know if it matters, but my keyword is longtail. The targeted traffic I would like to have would be geo specific.

If you could answer a few questions it would be helpful:

    • Does the diagram show a viable method? (I saw others but they were too time intensive to do by hand)
    • How many web 2.0 properties should I have? I know more is better, but I am doing this all by hand.
    • How many unique articles should I post on my main site?
    • Can I spin the articles from the main site and use those on the web 2.0 properties or does that content need to be 100% unique as well?
    • Do I need to go above and beyond my diagram to meet my goal of the 1st page of google?
    • Should I link from the 2.0 sites to my articles on the main site, or just to my niche.com?
    • What kind of maintenance would be needed to stay on the 1st page of google?

I am looking at this as a long term investment and am looking for dependable monitization - not burst of random nonconvertible traffic.

I am a little nervous about doing this wrong because I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on a bunch of domains and hosting - so I need to get this seo right. This also means that I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on seo services at the moment, although in the end I would want to automate the maintenance.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated,

    Lumien

    1. it all depends on your competition, but that diagram shows a viable method.
    2. as many as possible. start with 10 and see what that does. its all relative to how many competitors you have.
    3. your main site should be rich in content, about 30-40 pages of content would be a decent start.
    4. better to have unique content on your site and spun content on the properties.
    5. I cant imagine having any impact on *your sites* rankings with less than 20-30 2.0 sites. though the web 2.0 properties can rank quickly and very highly. its quite feasible to have the 70% of page 1 via web 2.0.
    6. its best to drive everything to your site, so that your site builds value, you can capture visitors, and if need be redirect to anywhere you want in the event that a vendor/affiliate/link becomes unprofitable.
    7. once you achieve page 1, it can take the same amount of work to stay there, it all depends on competition. but I guarantee there will be some maintenance needed. at least 1 months worth of work, per month. IOW if you did 100/links per month.. and it takes 6months to get to page 1.. most likely that same 100/links per month will keep you there.

the reality is, the right way... is to test and tweak. at this point, throwing all your money into a long tail, even if you get #1 -10... might not even convert for you at all. expect to spend x amount every month until something works.

Thanks for the info. Honestly I didn't realize it would be that involved.

I'm not even sure I have the time to arrange all that for one site. Do most people outsource the site setup, seo, and maintenance?

    Thanks,

    Lumien

You stated that in your opinion I may need 20-30 web 2.0 properties. Do these each need to be unique services, or could i have 10 blogger.com blogs, 10 squidoo lenses, and 10 of something else?

    Thanks,

    Lumien
