okay i was doing a research and found a keywrd and everything is looking great about it but when i type it in google the first places are occupied by big companies like amazon, staples and so on. is it hard to compete against them , should i find another keyword ?

You shouldn't worry about that. I assume your keyword has a brand name in it, and that's why top spots are owned by Amazon, Ebay etc. You should download a tool like Traffic Travis/Keyword Samurai (search for them, both available in download section) and check the SEO competition for your keyword. Look specifically for PR, number of backlinks to the specific page and whether the site has on-page SEO optimization or not. The more backlinks and higher PR, the harder it will be to rank for this specific keyword.

if your domain name has a brand name then better search another niche...

if i thought it was a good keyword i would still do it. being number 1 or number 2 is nice but if u can't outrank the big companies then just try to outrank the other websites that appear on the page. u don't have to be number 1 or 2. anywhere on the first page is nice imo
