I have wondered about this for a while, trying to rank for multiple keywords on a single page/post.

Ok so let's say my page/post title is "Buy new Ford focus rent blue Ford car" just an example

Ok so then let's say these are the keywords I'm trying to rank for below

    "buy ford focus"
    "buy new ford focus"
    "buy blue ford focus"
    "rent ford car"

Well my question is, is it possible to rank for all these keywords even if my post/page title does not have the exact match of all the keywords being adjacent in exact match form? Like "buy new ford focus" all fits together in that title and is uninterrupted as you can see so I would figure that keyword checks out. But then you have a keyword like "buy blue ford focus" which is never all together each of those words is in the title but not all connected, is that a problem ? I always assumed it was ok as long as each of the words is basically somewhere in the title or that the keyword showed up in the content somewhere, is that a correct assessment ?

But then even if that was true I was always curious if it would make it easier to rank a keyword that showed up in it's exact match entirety in a post title rather than one that is broken up by other words ? Because usually I try to rank for several keywords in one post instead of 1-3 or whatever so it recently dawned on me about this.

Anyways Id appreciate some info on this.

you're over thinking the on page.

just use all of those words in the content naturally and build links with varying anchor texts using all of the keywords you want to rank.

    buy
    ford
    focus
    new
    blue
    rent
    car

so your anchor texts would be all different variations of those, for example:

    rent a blue ford focus
    buy a new ford focus
    rent a new ford focus
    buy a ford focus car

    and so on.

sprinkle those keywords throughout your on page and you should be good, but I wouldn't get too hung up on the on page content exactly matching the keywords you are trying to rank for as it's more about the anchor texts of the incoming links that will rank you for those keywords.

Terry Kyle has a good webinar on ranking a single page for multiple keywords which can be seen here:

But it basically states that all you have to do is deep dive keyword research and build a bunch of varying anchor texts with the terms you are trying to rank.

make sure to dilute your anchor texts with some brand and naked urls to keep it legit.

Yes, you can (and should) rank for multiple keywords with the same content.

That's what the long tail is all about, really.

I wouldnt use word twice in title.

    "buy ford focus"
    "buy new ford focus"
    "buy blue ford focus"
    "rent ford car"

    Title could be:

Buy New Ford Focus - Rent A Car Too

By the way be careful with the anchors. If your anchors are like:

    rent a blue ford focus
    buy a new ford focus
    rent a new ford focus
    buy a ford focus car

Even though each anchor is different the overall density of the term "ford focus" in your link profile is going to get very high and could potentially pose a threat.
