I had a question about the ranking importance of d0follow links, particularly with what we know about disavowing links. D0follow links pass on PR, whereas nofollow links do not pass on PR.

However, there has been some debate on whether nofollow links are helpful in ranking. Nevertheless, it's helps to have a mix of both to provide a more natural link profile.

My understanding of the google disavow tool is that is just makes the disavowed links nofollow, but doesn't actually remove the links.

Does this provide any further support that nofollow links don't help with ranking?

I know a lot of this is just conjecture, but would be interested to know what people think.

Only google probably knows the answer to this, but either way you should have both types of links.

google is simply now conditioning people to use it's disavow tool. Do not be suprised if further down the line sites which have used it have issues. It's like getting married, this is probably the honeymoon period , trust me it's ends at some point.
