    I currently using Market Samurai to identify which keywords I should use for a new website.

    I have a fairly simple question....I think;

    When looking at the competition, what is most important; how many backlinks they have, or weather they are using the keyword in theor metatags/title/url/description and headers?

    i.e If a site has 50,000 backlinks, but hasnt used the keyword in the TITLE URL and DESCRIPTION, would I be able to beat them in google by getting a site up and running with the keywords in the TITLE/URL/DESCRIPTION and HEADER tags and 5% keyword density, but with few backlinks?

    Thanks if anyone can clear this up for me.

    I'm struggling to find keywords too so this would be a great help if someone could take the time to answer and help us out.

    Also what about keywords that others in the top 10 on page one have the following attributes: very high 'index count' >10000 + low 'backlinks to page' <100 + very high 'backlinks to domain' >50000 + PR average <4

    If this is an aged, high PR site authority site... You have no chance outranking it with a few backlinks (even when you put the keyword in the TITLE/URL/DESCRIPTION and HEADER tags).

    In my opinion, it's a mixture. Each part plays a big roll in ranking well in google/yahoo/bing. You wouldn't beat them if you used the keywords they are targeting inn your description, title ect when they have thousands of high PR backlinks if you have for example 100 low ones.

    I don't know a great deal about SEO, but I would say this;
    Imagine you are the visitor. What are they looking for? What phrases would they type in? Would they make a spelling error? Would they search a long winded search tern, or a short vague one? Either way, good luck :)

    You can beat those but not with few backlinks... they got lots of support like domain age, PR, high index pages, good number of domain backlinks.....

    But still possible if you optimize your page or site and then start making link... Depending upon competition your site will come up sooner or later...
