I have a keyword that gets around 10,000 monthly searches and a bunch of "suffixkeyword" and "keywordsuffix" keywords that get around 1000-2000 that should also be easy to rank. Thing is most of the topics are news related stories to this keyword. Should I scrape these news articles and spin them? Or should I post articles with reference to the original source? Is that legal? Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

You could get away with spun content for a while until google finds out then bans you.

You COULD... try rewriting the articles so that they're completely original so you know the length of how long your website will be alive will be much much longer.

For long term, write unique and quality articles on the topic. If you don't care much about the quality and longevity, spin the content and use them but there's always risk involved in this.

How about doing the obvious option, and writing your own articles on the topic from scratch?

Well I wouldnt be really creating "articles", when you type my keyword in google all the results are news headlines. Example "47 year old man gets shot down town" , "young boy dies in gunfight", you get the drift? I could possible write enough content on the "cause" of these news articles, but it would be a one page wordpress site....

    Bh9889,

I agree with many of the posters here. If you plan on having your site rank well for the long term, you may have to put a lot more effort into either re-writing or coming with original content. If your goals don't require your site to be around for that long, perhaps spinning content would work for you.

Here is a good post about using unique content for your website,

This whiteboard video from SEOMoz about article marketing is also very informative,

    Good luck with your site!

Are you trying to actually get readers and establish an authority blog? If yes, don't use scraped and poorly spun content. If this is basically just an adsense site and you don't want to spend the time building a quality site, I'd go for it but make sure that all the spun content is readable and passes copyscape.

I suggest avoding the spun content on the money making site. You can use that for the backlinks but at any cost avoid spun content because you want to rank on first page which usually gets human review.
