    Hi,

I currently have an eCommerce store selling "Blue Widgets". I have around 12 different categories within the store.

One of them is "Red Widgets". I have now decided to start a New store selling "Red widgets"

    Would you recommend....

    1. 301 redirect the category from shop 1 to the new shop
    2. Delete the category and put a site wide banner advertising on shop 1 which links to shop 2
    3. Same as above but don't delete the category and have two stores selling the "Red Widgets"
    4. Any other Suggestions??

What would you do in this situation? I really want to somehow maximise link juice from site one so it gives site 2 a boost from the start.
Are site wide links bad? Would this be a bad idea for a brand new site considering it would technically be 1000+ backlinks.

Or is a redirect the way to go? Would this pass on juice and boost PR and rank.

Really stuck on this. All help appreciated.

    Thanks

What benefits will this give the new site? Will it just be the traffic or will it pass juice as well?

I would recommend doing a 301 as well to pass on existing link juice.

A 301 will pass the linkjuice and the PR, but you also have to see if that looks natural to the visitor to your site.
If you confuse them too much then you are just scaring them away.

If you have a store, you should first think about your potential customers and then SEO, not the other way around.
