I am looking to build a website using WP but I want my home page to always remain the same, so when they arrive they get what I want them to see..

I then want to ad a "blog" tag at the top menu so they can access my ravings later, but the first page to be fixed permanently as I want..

Any tips welcome..

as easy as that, v pleased with the fast response, BHW Rocks..thanks

Yes as poll factory stated you can adjust the settings so that you can set a page as static or post. This is how the about, advertise pages are normally done on blogs. The pages are just set as static. This way no post date is displayed either.

To enhance this even further use a custom built template rather than a standard one as the standard blog templates are mainly built for blog purposes. Try templates such as woothemes, onetheme, themespinner etc. All depends on your niche I suppose, but these templates are very good for having static pages. Just search the blogging forum on here.

thanks for that, I have access to all those themes from "here" so thats good..
my niche is not the issue, just that I want a wide left panel with either a narrow 1 or 2 more panels to the right.. you know, you have the image in your mind now looking for a matching template..
